I started writing down my favorites a couple years ago. I knew I wanted to do something with the list, but wasn’t sure what. 

But, one thing became clear:

I know what I like.

And when I like something, I keep coming back to it. That’s how I know it’s my favorite. Whether it’s a favorite song, movie, dessert, restaurant, neighborhood, lipstick, book, or podcast, there’s something about it that feeds me and brings me joy. 

So, what is joy?

I think of joy as that feeling I get from experiencing something that brings me pleasure.  Joy makes my eyes light up and my spirit smile. Favorites can be a simple gateway to joy that brings us pleasure, brings us peace, makes us think, inspires us to create, and so much more.

And I don’t know about you, but enjoying my favorites somehow slows down my whole world and allows me to take in and savor the moment.

It also opens me up to a part of myself that has nothing to do with what I do for a living, what I produce, or what I can accomplish. By enjoying my favorites, I am free to sit back and see what my spirit does when it’s not pressed on all sides, forced to do and not be
